What are crafting manuals?

Crafting manuals are parchments and books that teach you the ingredients or materials needed to cook food and craft gear. Examining a parchment learns the recipe immediately. For books, open them during examination and turn to the page with glowing blue text to register the recipe.

Manuals span four categories: food recipes, elixir recipes, dye recipes, and crafting books covering weapons, armor, and shields.

What to do with crafting manuals?

Once learned, a manual serves no further purpose unless you plan to gift it. Food recipes make good gifts for food-related vendors: the Butcher’s Shop, Inn, and Grocer’s Shop. Crafting books are appropriate for gear vendors including the Tailor’s Shop, Smithy, and Equipment Shop.

Sell any manual immediately after learning the recipe or after maxing vendor trust. There is no benefit to keeping an examined recipe in your inventory.

Pro tip: Recipe: Braised Ribs has two acquisition sources (looted in Hernand Castle and bought at the Calphade Inn), so if you miss it during exploration you can purchase it directly.
