Overview
Skills in Elden Ring are weapon and shield moves that allow the player to execute various and unique offensive attacks from the Weapon or Shield that is currently equipped. Skills differ from equipment to equipment, and in most cases they can be modified by using Ashes of War. You do not have to apply the affinity (infusion) of an Ash of War to apply its skill. You will also find weapons that have default skills without an Ash of War.
Weapon Skills
A huge feature of the game are the various skills that a player can obtain throughout the various areas of The Lands Between. Skills are a combat and character progression feature that makes its return from the previous Souls games, however, in Elden Ring, FromSoftware conentrated on the level of freedom that it gives the player.
In the previous Souls games developed by FromSoftware, there was a certain skill attached to a certain weapon, now, in Elden Ring, you’re actually able to freely interchange skills between a large variety of weapons, and as mentioned by Hidetaka Miyazaki, there are about 100 different skills in total – you are free to combine your different skills with different weapons, you’re free to create Builds for your character with different Weapons, skills, and Magic.
Learn Skills
Skills come equipped by default on Weapons and Shields, but you can modify them by using Ashes of War. To do so, go to a Site of Grace, enter the Ashes of War menu to choose one to slot into a weapon in order to learn a different Skill and changes the weapons’ Scaling. Note that some Weapons have unique skills that can’t be overwritten.
Note: You can pull out a skill you don’t like any time at a Site of Grace or at Smithing Master Hewg if at the Roundtable Hold.
Elden Ring All Skills
Not all equipment allows you to swap their skills. Unique weapons, such as the Crystal Sword can’t be equipped with Ashes of War or have their Skill changed, same rule applies for all Sacred Seals.
