Formerly known as Project K, Riftbound marks Riot Games’ expansion into the trading card game industry. The first set, Origins, will feature over 300 cards, including popular champions like Annie, Garen, Jinx, and Yasuo.
Chengran Chai, Executive Producer at Riot Games, expressed gratitude for player excitement and highlighted improvements based on community feedback. The game underwent extensive playtesting and UI refinements to enhance the player experience.
Game Director Dave Guskin explained the name change, stating Riftbound reflects Summoner’s Rift and the game’s dynamic gameplay. The name was acquired from indie studio Barrel Smash Studios after negotiations.
Riftbound offers multiple play modes, including 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all matches. Riot partnered with UVS Games for distribution and organized play support, with demo events planned at conventions.
The Proving Grounds starter deck includes Lux, Annie, Master Yi, and Garen, while Origins Champion Decks feature pre-built 56-card decks with Viktor, Jinx, and Lee Sin. Players can customize decks using 14-card booster packs with varying rarities.
Riftbound aims to blend LoL’s rich lore with strategic card gameplay, positioning itself as a fresh contender in the TCG market.
