Set in China’s Tang Dynasty — one of ancient China’s most prosperous eras — Hexi unfolds outside the game’s main timeline and follows ordinary people swept up in history’s currents. The expansion takes players through the Hexi region after it loses contact with the capital, Chang’an, prompting a dreamlike spiritual pilgrimage.
The first chapter, Jade Gate Pass, drops March 5 (Pacific Time) across a sweeping desert landscape packed with new bosses, quests, narrative content and martial arts styles. Two new wuxia skills debut here: Sand Race, which lets players surf across sand dunes at speed, and Cosmic Reversal, which allows players to reverse time and rebuild desert ruins — essential for puzzle-solving and uncovering hidden secrets.
Two new martial arts also arrive with the chapter. Spring Dreamscape is an umbrella-based style built for agility and fluid combo chains, while Fleeting Clouds is a rope dart style specializing in wide area-of-effect attacks suited for both crowd control and one-on-one combat.
Players will also encounter Whitecrown City, an abandoned frontier outpost where campaign boss Guo Xin — the last Grand Protector of Anxi — stands watch in solitude. A second major boss, the Wandering Ark, roams freely across the desert rather than occupying a fixed location, demanding precise strategy to take down while managing both ranged and close-quarters attacks.
A new core weapon, the Heng Blade, is set to arrive in April. Built around precision and timing, it rewards disciplined spacing and clean strikes at mid-to-close range, with its own dedicated martial art system.
Hexi’s second chapter, Liangzhou, will introduce the expansion’s first snow-capped mountain map, while the third and final chapter unfolds across Qinchuan’s vast grasslands — described as the Painting Realm — where the expansion’s central mystery concludes. The full rollout spans three major maps covering deserts, ice fields, mountains and grasslands, populated by 11 unique bosses across all chapters.
