The Duchess, Ironeye, Raider, and Recluse – the first four of eight specialized Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign – have each received dedicated character vignettes showcasing their unique abilities and combat styles.
The latest reveal features the Recluse, an arcane blood mage who wields elemental powers “claimed from all”. Her gameplay trailer demonstrates how she harnesses shadow magic to overcome enemies in the harsh world of the Lands Between.
Previously revealed characters include:
Ironeye: A marksman described as “swift and unwavering”, specializing in precise archery to “cut through the darkness”.
Raider: A fearless warrior designed to “stand resolute in the chaos of battle” and “carve a path through the Night’s tide”.
Duchess: An assassin-type character whose blade is “unrelenting and unseen”, capable of vanquishing foes “in the flick of a second hand”.
Elden Ring Nightreign represents a significant departure from the original game’s formula as a standalone cooperative action survival game. Players form teams of three – with the option to venture solo for added challenge – and must survive a three day-and-night cycle while exploring a dynamic world.
The gameplay loop involves making critical decisions about combat and exploration across constantly changing biomes populated with different weapons and enemies. Players must strengthen their characters while outrunning an encroaching circle of fire to face increasingly difficult boss encounters at the end of each day.
The third day presents the ultimate challenge – confronting one of the Nightlords, powerful bosses created specifically for this expansion. These encounters require careful coordination between Nightfarers, combining their unique abilities to overcome these formidable adversaries.
Even failed attempts provide value, as unsuccessful runs award relics that allow players to customize and upgrade their characters according to personal playstyles.
Elden Ring Nightreign launches May 30 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. More information about the game and pre-order options is available at nightreign.com.
