The legendary space MMO EVE Online is poised for a significant evolution with its upcoming Legion expansion, announced by developer CCP Games on May 2. Set to launch on May 27, 2025, Legion introduces several game-changing features designed to enhance player collaboration and streamline entry into EVE’s infamous player-driven warfare.
At the heart of the expansion is the new Freelance Jobs system, creating a direct pathway for players to engage with player-run corporations. This feature allows capsuleers at any experience level to accept tasks created by other players – from combat missions to industrial operations and logistics support.
“With Legion, we’re opening a direct path to joining the fight in gaming’s largest war: the record-breaking space-spanning conflicts that can only be found in EVE Online,” said Bergur Finnbogason, EVE Online’s Creative Director.
The expansion introduces two formidable new warships:
The Babaroga: A Triglavian Tech II marauder equipped with entropic disintegrators and a bastion module delivering powerful subcapital damage.
The Sarathiel: An agile Angel Cartel dreadnought with impressive projectile damage capabilities and the unique ability to use a Capital Micro Jump Drive in siege mode.
Game Director Snorri Árnason emphasized the expansion’s focus on leadership and influence: “Step up, right now is the time to assume your role as a leader and take command in EVE.”
Legion also enhances nullsec space management through improvements to the Equinox Sovereignty Suite, providing alliances with greater control and strategic flexibility in territorial development. A new Corporation Palette feature allows player groups to establish unified visual identities with shared colors across their fleets.
The expansion includes balance changes to cruisers and capital ships, map experience improvements, and increased Skill Points gains through the AIR Career Program for Omega clone accounts.
CCP Games also announced Nemesis, the final planet-side combat event before EVE Vanguard, the company’s MMOFPS set in the EVE Universe, enters Steam Early Access in Summer 2026. The Nemesis public access event begins September 16, 2025.
