VI. GAME EXPERIENCE OPTIMIZATIONS & IMPROVEMENTS

1. Heroes’ ultimate skills are now cancelled by dragging upwards.

2. The in-game hero attribute screen has been adjusted so players can still control the hero and check the minimap while browsing through attributes.

5. Target identification has now been improved when the monster attack button is pressed when an enemy hero is nearby.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

VII. HERO BALANCE CHANGES

Lauriel, The Archangel

– Changed the slowdown effect of Divine Punishment from 90% that gradually decreases –> 50% fixed slowdown
– Updated the ability description of Blink to make it clear that she is invincible for a short period of time while charging towards the target
– Updated visual effects of the Judgment Circle created by Smite

Designer Notes: As a Mage, we believe Lauriel’s core value comes from her ability to deal continuous AoE damage and excel in 1v1 battles. We wanted to keep her as a high-risk, high-reward pick that can deal significant damage to groups of enemies. By reducing the slowdown effect of Divine Punishment, enemies will have more of an option whether to engage her during Smite.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Tulen, The Pure

– Magic damage dealt by each lightning bolt from Thunderclap has been reduced from 350 (+0.52AP)(+40 per level) –> 320 (+0.52AP)(+40 per level)
– Fixed some further bugs that affected Thunderclap, ultimately making it stronger than intended

Designer Notes: Some of the most notable features about Tulen lie in the power of Thunderbird and the mobility granted by Lightning Strike. He is extremely good at laning and clearing minion waves, putting Mages that lane against him at a disadvantage, so we reduced the damage dealt by Thunderclap to make him more reasonable to lane against.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Kahlii, The Ghost Guardian

– Updated the names and descriptions of all of Kahlii’s abilities
– Increased magic damage of Damnation from 0 (+1.0AD)(+0.4AP) –> 40 (+1.0AD)(+0.4AP)
– Decreased magic damage dealt by Eternal Blame from 160/180/200/220/240/260 (+0.35AP) –> 130/150/170/190/210/230 (+0.31AP)
– Decreased magic damage dealt by each wraith wave in Grievance from 110/140/170 (+0.15AP) –> 70/90/110 (+0.09AP)
– Shortened the delay after casting of Eternal Blame
– Raised the camera angle on Grievance to offer a 40% increase in line of sight
– Fixed a bug where only one in every two waves of wraiths was effective in Grievance. Now, almost two times as many waves of wraiths are triggered than before, and the flying speed of each wave has been increased.

Designer Notes: The actual number of wraiths that are produced by Grievance will now match the ability description, with the damage per hit decreased to match. Take note that these changes have increased the damage dealt by her ultimate to increase by nearly 50%!

We hope that more players will prioritizing leveling up Incorporeal. Kahlii’s second ability increases her movement speed and ability power, alloowing her to take advantage of long-range normal attacks to contribute more to small teamfights in the early and mid stages of the game. We also enhanced her normal attack damage by taking some of the damage away from Eternal Blame and putting into Damnation.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Preyta, The Illest

– The damage dealt by Plague Specter has undergone a fundamental change

Previously:
Base Damage: 360 (+90 per level) (+0.55AP) magic damage
Damage after charging: Charging for two seconds causes double damage; charging for less than two seconds causes base damage

Now:
Base Damage: 216 (+54 per level) (+0.33AP) magic damage
Damage after charging: Damage gradually increases with charge up to a maximum of 300%

– Reduced the speed at which the range warning line extends for Plague Specter, making it more consistent with the actual effect
– Minimum casting time decreased from 0.8 seconds –> 0.4 seconds
– Magic damage from Plague Specter reduced from 360/450/540/630/720/810 (+0.55AP) –> 216/270/324/370/432 (0.33AP)

Designer Notes: Currently, Preyta can either only deal double damage or base damage using Plague Specter based on howlong it channels for. Players didn’t seem to enjoy this mechanic and the time it took to use made it easy to accidentally end it early, essentially halving the damage dealt. These changes reduced the channeling time it takes to deal more damage, giving Preyta more flexibility in how they can initiate fights. We also changed the damage structure of Plague Specter, allowing damage and range based on the total channeling time. We hope that these changes will make him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Natalya, The Nether Queen

– Reduced Mana cost of Arcane Nova from 80/85/90/95/100/105 –> 70/75/80/85/90/95
– Reduced cooldown of Arcane Nova from 12/11/10/9/8/7 seconds –> 8.5/8.2/7.9/7.6/7.3/7 seconds
– Increased the flying speed of Arcane Spirits from 11m/s –> 13m/s
– Now when Natalya uses Lethal Rays, it removes all control effects upon casting

Designer Notes: Natalya has low mobility and relies more on linking her abilities, making her easily countered. The increased flying speed of Arcane Spirits and now she can cast Lethal Rays when under control effects. These will improve her stability and performance when laning. Used as an initiator in team battles, Natalya will pose a significant threat to the enemy.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Jinnar, The Incorruptible

– Changed the Damage reduction of Nirvana based on the number of enemy heroes in the area the moment the ability is used –> Provides a corresponding damage reduction based on the number of enemy heroes in the area for the duration of Nirvana
– Rescaled movement speed bonus from Nirvana from 70% for 1.5 seconds –> 80% that declines over 2.5 seconds
– Increased cooldown time from 30/25/20 seconds –> 36/32/28 seconds

Designer Notes: As a Mage who fights deep behind enemy lines, Jinnar requires lots of courage and a strong physique. Therefore, we’ve increased the burst speed of Nirvana and provided him with extra immunity.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Krixi, The Pixie

– Decreased movement speed bonus provided by Flutter from 30% –> 25%
– Increased magic damage of Mischief from 320/395/470/545/620/695 (+1.0AP) –> 350/420/490/560/630/700 (1.0AP)
– Moonfall can now be cast when there are no surrounding targets
– Moonfall nows provides a 15% movement speed bonus for the duration of the ability

Designer Notes: We look forward to Krixi taking up her rightful place in solo mid with this increased mobility and casting change for Moonfall.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Ignis, The Anointed One

– Sacred Flame now provides a 50 HP (+5 per level) (+0.1AP) regen when a mark is triggered on an enemy
– Decreased Shield Points provided by Fire Crash from 300/450/600/750/900/1050 (+1.0AP) –> 300/425/550/675/800/925 (+0.9AP)
– Reduced Mana cost of Fire Crash from 50/55/60/65/70/75 –> 40/45/50/55/60/65
– Base HP increased from 3093 –> 3205
– Base Armor increased from 87 –> 93
– Damage taken by Marked Targets from Holy Emvers decreased from 800/1050/1300 (+1.1AP) –> 800/1000/1200 (+1.0AP)

Designer Notes: As Ignis is distinguished by his taste for continuous battle, we hope to boost his ability to keep on fighting while retaining his lackluster mobility. We’ve reduced the mana cost so that Ignis doesn’t burn through his mana pool so much given that Fire Crash has a short cooldown. Increasing his base stats will make him more difficulty to kill in the early stages of the game.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Raz, The Fist

– Fancy Footwork changed from third normal attack causes extra magic damage and knockback –> every three normal attacks, the first normal attack causes extra magic damage and knockback
– Fancy Footwork extra magic damage decreased from 100 (+7 per level) (+1.0AP) –> 100 (+5 per level) (+0.7AP)

Designer Notes: Raz is a Mage that resembles an Assassin, but right now his passive requires three normal attacks to trigger, affecting his ability to strike and making him overly reliant on tricks. The change to Fancy Footwork will improve his laning and assassination performance.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Aleister, The Lord of Mischief

– Magic damage dealt by each shock from Matrix of Woe increased from 100/115/130/145/160/175 (+0.4AP) –> 115/130/145/160/175/190 (+0.38AP)

Designer Notes: Increasing the damage dealt by Matrix of Woe will increase Aleister’s clearing abilities in the early game.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Superman, The Man of Steel

– Increased the cooldown of Man of Steel from 12 seconds –> 14 seconds
– Increased the cooldown of Speeding Bullet from 60/55/50 seconds –> 70/60/50 seconds

Designer Notes: On the Europe server, Superman has been a first ban or first pick in nearly all matches. By extending the cooldown of these skill, we hope to limit Superman’s charge in enemy groups.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Violet, The Pistol Assassin

– Cooldown reduction granted by Tactical Fire for every normal attack now only works when hitting heroes. Normal attacks on non-hero enemies will no longer reduce the cooldown.

Designer Notes: Our last nerf to Violet didn’t have enough of an impact as we’d have liked, leading to other Marksman picks being less appealing.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Yorn, The Hotshot

– The additional magic damage dealt by Heart Shot equal to 10% of the target’s lost HP is now at a maximum 1000 damage to monsters

Designer Notes: Yorn’s ultimate damage to epic-level monsters in late stages is too high. This will restrict his max lethal damage output.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Kriknak, The Scarabim

– Magic damage as a fixed proportion of Max HP by Terrifying Plague rescaled from 8/9/10/11/12/13% –> 10%
– Horn Rush HP regen rescaled from 100/175/250/325/400/475 (+0.3AD) –> 150/200/250/300/350/400 (+0.2AD)
– Physical damage caused by Drone Drop decreased from 400/600/800 (+1.6AD) –> 350/500/650 (+1.5AD)
– Terrifying Plague can now be used while flying in Drone Drop
– The landing speed of Drone Drop has been increased

Designer Notes: Kriknak’s hasn’t getting much love for some time. All of these changes will make him a more explosive hero. To balance that out, we reduced the damage of Terrifying Plague and the HP regen from Horn Rush.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Astrid, The Indomitable

– Removed the damage caused to enemies when Bladed Guardian’s shield is in effect
– Bladed Guardian shield HP is reduced from 450 (+ hero level) x 75 –> 150 (+1.5AD)
– Spin Slash damage rescaled from 160/200/240/280/320/360 (+0.6AD) –> 150/200/250/300/350/400 (+1.1AD)
– Removed the 50% slowdown effect from Dire Blow
– Removed the Dire Blow mechanic that increased Astrid’s total damage as her HP decreased
– **NEW** Whenever Dire Blow hits a target with more HP than herself, she will inflict a one second daze
– **NEW** Whenver Dire Blow hits a target with HP equal to or lower than herself, she will inflict true damage equal to 16% of target’s lost HP (max damage to monsters is 500)
– Base physical damage of Dire Blow rescaled from 500/750/1000 (+1.2AD) –> 400/600/800 (+2.0AD)

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Fennik, Vulpis Ignis

– Damage dealt by Chain Hammer Cyclone can stack Thief’s Marks
– Fixed a bug that caused Fennik to switch between two move actons while moving inside the altar

Designer Notes: We want to increase the trigger rate of Thief’s Mark in the early game by allowing stacks from Chain Hammer Cyclone. This allows him to trigger the explosion more safely.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Ryoma, The Ronin

– Reduced the physical damage of Wailing Blade from 330/375/420/465/510/555 (+2.12AD) –> 320/360/400/440/480/520 (+2.0AD)

Designer Notes: Ryoma’s high-damage abilities affects the ability for enemy heroes to lane against him. Bringing the damage down from Wailing Blade should balance this out a bit.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Skud, The Smasher

– Furious Charge cooldown rescaled from 6 seconds –> 7/6.7/6.4/6.1/5.8/5.5 seconds
– **NEW** When Power Glove is used, the next normal attack will gain 12% increased bonus damage every 0.5 seconds, up to a maximum of 60%. After 5 seconds of charging, the charge and damage bonus will go away. The bonus damage has no chance of crit.

Designer Notes: Power Glove is Skud’s primary source of damage, but has been performing below our expectations. This new mechanic will greatly improve Skud’s ability to ambush enemies.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Kil’Groth, The Terror

– Attack speed increase per normal attack from The Fanatic increased from 4-8% –> 6-10%
– Max stacks from The Fanatic decreased from 8 –> 5
– Extra magic damage every third normal attack from Enraged Spear increased from 25/50/75/100/125/150 (+0.25AD) –> 60/95/130/165/200/235 (+0.3 extra AD)
– HP healed per target hit by Enraged Spear increased from 20/25/30/35/40/45 (+0.1AD) –> 45/56/67/78/89/100 (+0.2 extra AD)
– If an enemy hero is hit by Enraged Spear, the HP restore is boosted by 150%
– Enraged Spear mana cost reduced from 70/75/80/85/90/95 –> 50/55/60/65/70/75
– Enraged Spear cooldown reduced from 14.5/14/13.5/13/12.5/12 seconds –> 12 seconds
– Fanatic stacks added by Gore Lord increased from 4 –> 5
– Kil’Groth is immune to control effects for 4 seconds after activating Gore Lord. This effect is extended by 0.3 seconds per hit on an enemy hero, up to a maximum of 3 seconds.

Designer Notes: Kil’Groth is currently in a very embarassing position. Fafnir’s Talon’s % damage is very effective against tanks, but what he really needs when attacking squishy heroes is burst damage. Hopefully these changes will allow Kil’Groth to deploy different effects in both pure damage and crit builds. The adjustments to his ult were made because we want Kil’Groth to be able to charge into a fight, rather than run from one.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Airi, The Kunoichi

– Base magic defense increased from 0 –> 50

Designer Notes: This should increase Airi’s survivability against Mages in the early game.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Slimz, The Trustworthy

– Flying Spear attack speed increase upon hit decreased from 25/30//35/40/45/50% –> 20/24/28/32/36/40%
– Normal attacks are now reinforced at the start and end of Savage Potion

Designer Notes: We think that the newly added Whispering Wind will improve Slimz’ ability to fight. To balance that out, we’ve rescaled the attack speed bonus from Flying Spear.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Lindis, The Sentinel

– Fixed a bug that caused the passive on Piercing Gaze to trigger when she made two normal attacks in quick succession.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Liliana, The Elegant

– Human Form magic damage reduced from 500/580/660/750/820/900 (+0.9AP) –> 500/580/660/750/820/900 (+0.8AP)
– Triple combo action time in Fox Form reduced from 0.9 seconds –> 0.6 seconds
– To resolve the issue where Liliana would be immune during Unpredictable’s movement – causing it to enter cooldown without a transformation, Talents are no longer able to be used during Unpredictable’s movement
– Fox Form to Human Form transformation ability power bonus reduced from 80/200/320 –> 80/160/240
– Unpredictable cooldown raised from 7 seconds –> 8 seconds

Designer Notes: As the first combined melee + long-range hero, Liliana is proving to be a bit too powerful. In human form she’s able to inflict long-range poke damage with high mobility. In fox form, she has high burst damage. Her damage in human form was clearly too high so we leveled that out.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Moren, The Technowiz

– Max stacks of Precision increased from 7 –> 8
– Reinforced normal attack range after activation of Precision increased from 7m –> 7.5m

Designer Notes: Moren was stripped of his power in the last balance changes. This should now restore his ability to jungle.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

TeeMee, The Stalwart Twins

– Chain Lance flight speed reduced from 21m/s –> 16m/s

Designer Notes: TeeMee has decent support capabilities, but Chain Lance was leaving enemies with very little time to react.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Max, The Wunderkind

– True damage from Static Shock reduced from 30 (+4 x hero level) (+0.22AD) –> 30 (+4 x hero level) (+0.18AD)
Designer Notes: We hope that reducing Max’s passive damage will make him more balance when fighting in the Dark Slayer lane.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Maloch, The Merciless (EU only)

– Reduced physical damage dealt by Cleave from 385/485/585/685/785/885 (+1.44AD) –> 350/440/530/620/710/800 (+1.8AD)
– Shield HP from Souleater rescaled from 200/275/350/425/500/575 (+0.6AD) –> 170/225/280/335/390/445 (+0.75AD)

Designer Notes: Maloch is first a Warrior, then a Tank, but he is mostly being played as a Tank. Warriors should bring more damage items to battle, so we’ve adjusted Maloch accordingly to fit this and benefit from a more offensive item build.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Taara, The War Hammer

– Increased physical damage of Whirlwind from 150/180/210/240/270/300 (+0.55AD) –> 150/180/210/240/270/300 (+0.6AD)

Designer Notes: We hope that this will strengthen Taara’s ability to lane in the Dark Slayer side.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Arthur, The Chosen

– Increased magic damage of Holy Guard from 100/125/150/175/200/225 (+0.35AD) (+0.4AP) –> 100/125/150/175/200/225 (+0.4AD) (+0.4AP)
– Complete visual redesign of the hero

Designer Notes: Arthur is a powerful Warrior but this is not reflected in his winrate. This will improve his ability to deal burst damage.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Xeniel, The Immaculate (EU only)

– Rescaled the cooldown of Malleus from 9/8.6/8.2/7.8/7.4/7 seconds –> 10/9.4/8.8/8.2/7.6/7 seconds
– Decreased base armor from 125 –> 113

Designer Notes: As a Tank, Xeniel’s ability to take damage in the early game is too strong. This coupled with his high mobility and control made him too difficult to lane against. These changes should make him a more reasonable opponent in the early game.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Lu Bu, The Great Warlord

– Daze duration after knocking enemies in air with Red Stallion decreased from 0.5 seconds –> 0.25 seconds

Designer Notes: Lu Bu performs extremely well in competitive play. We hope this change gives opponents more time to react.

April 12th Update: Patch Notes

Wukong, The Monkey King

– Monkey Business can be now be cast again within 5 seconds, concealing Wukong and increasing movement speed for 1 second. The second use does not trigger effects from God of War.

Designer Notes: It is almost impossible for Wukong to escape from battle. This should make it easier to escape when a situation goes south.
